Head Tracks are  generally fitted straight into the head of a prepared opening  as per Drawing 1b. Generally fittings are spaced 150mm from each end and then approximately 400mm between each fixing on alternate sides of the head track. If plasterboard has been placed into the opening instead of Finger jointed pine then the screws should be long enough to reach the stud whether it is steel or timber.

Sometimes the Head track needs to be fitted where there is no roof battens and must be fitted straight to the ceiling plasterboard in this case we use nylon fixing plugs at 400mm centres and add some Maxbond or similar product to help support the top track into position as per drawing 1c

Generally as there is no shear pressure or wind loading onto internal Wardrobe Doors this type of fixing is acceptable. However if the doors are to be used as internal access doors into a walk in wardrobe which has an external  window it would be advisable to bring the fixings back to 300 mm apart and ensure the Head track has fixings ino a solid stud above the ceiling.
